Tender Mercies

A constant, dim morning chatter fills the room
with familiarity, kindness and comfort.
A soft ray of light through the window
illuminates her beautiful gray highlights.

She was conscious of his presence
when He walked in unnoticed by anyone.
Was there a flicker of recognition?
He walks past her bed.

Not the young one! she protests in silence
her cries lost to the waves weaving around.
The young one is still smiling about something.
Perhaps he is lost in one of his dazzling dreams.

The disoriented one runs towards Him with open arms.
The other man resists, fights, tells Him angrily
"but many things left undone, left unsaid!".
And then there it was; the moment of acceptance.
The happiest of all was the bronze goddess
with a graceful smile. She takes His offered arm.

Holding each other they stand in the middle of the room.
He moves towards her corner
and she watches in wonder, fear and anticipation.
He walks over to her, runs his fingertips over her forehead
a feeling of immense affection breaks her heart
and she wakes up to the bright lights shining overhead.
